Is this a party bus?

Nope. Trust us, you’re going to have a good time on our brewery tours, but we are not a party bus experience. You’ll get to sample a bunch of great brews but the goal isn’t getting totally wasted. The goal is learning about the local beer scene and having a fun time and drinks along the way!

When do you offer brewery tours?

We run public brewery tours most Saturdays and select Fridays year-round - check out our schedule of upcoming public brewery tours below. We also offer private tours that can be scheduled for any day of the week for groups of 10+ people!

Which breweries will we visit?

Note that although we try to keep the schedule as consistent as possible, brewery stops are subject to change due to special events at the breweries, brewery staff availability, etc.

**Note that Great River Brewery (Davenport, Iowa) has temporarily been removed from our tours due to flood damage that has forced their temporary closure. We’ll be back as soon as they reopen!

Will I get a confirmation email after I purchase my tour ticket(s)?

Yep! You should receive a confirmation email with a few minutes of booking online or by phone. Sometimes, this email gets routed to your spam folder so check there if you don’t see it.

You will also receive a reminder email the day before your tour with details such as parking and where to meet. Feel free to respond to the email or call/text us at 563-265-3191 with any questions.

Save a tree - you don’t need to bring your confirmation email with you to the tour. Just make sure you have your driver’s license or some form of ID. We’ve got your name on our roster and we’ll check you in when you arrive.

Does my brewery tour include food?

Yes! Our QC Brewery Experience and Hops and Hatchets Tour include a snack of delicious local pizza at one of the tour stops. If you have a topping preference, feel free to shoot us a message or reply to your booking confirmation email before your tour and we will do our best to accommodate!

If you’d like to purchase addition food, the following stops may offer opportunities to purchase a meal or snack during your tour, subject to availability and tour timing.

  • Crawford Brew Works: Mama Bosso pizzas and soft pretzels OR local food truck vendors

  • Five Cities Brewing: Delivery of meals from neighboring restaurants Central Standard and Crust

Where should I park and meet to start the tour?

QC Brewery Experience:

  • Meet your guide at Five Cities Brewing (2255 Falcon Ave Bettendorf, IA). Free street parking is available in their lot.

Hops + Hatchets Tour:

  • Meet your guide at Live Action Games inside NorthPark Mall (320 W Kimberly Rd #234, Davenport, IA - just inside Entrance 5 near Von Maur). Lots of parking is available in the mall lot near that entrance. We’ll send you a map the day before your tour as well!

Do I need to tip?

We pay our staff fairly, and our philosophy is that gratuity should be a reward for a job well done rather than a strategy to nickel and dime our customers. To that end, our team members do not solicit tips, but you are encouraged to offer them if you feel like they are deserved! Standard tour industry gratuity is 10-15% of your booking price.

If you’d like to leave a digital tip after your tour, you can send it along with your tour date and guide’s name via PayPal (howdy@altstatestravel.com) or Venmo (@altstates). The entire amount will be passed along to your guide.

Tips for all others involved with our outings, including guides at the tour stops and bartenders, are included in the price of your tour.

What should I wear for the brewery tour?

We recommend that you wear comfortable, closed toe shoes and that you avoid wearing high heels. We may be standing and walking around inside the breweries which are often in operation during the tour.

Even though we’ll be inside for most of the time, dress appropriately for the weather. Check the forecast and plan accordingly. If it looks like rain, we recommend that you bring a raincoat and/or umbrella.

How long are the tours?

The QC Brewery Experience is approximately 4 hours and the Hops and Hatchets Tour is approximately 4.5 hours. Note that tour length may vary slightly depending on various factors including group size, how busy the breweries are, etc.

Is beer included in the tour price?

Absolutely - this is a brewery tour, after all!

Our brewery tours include either a pint or tasting flight at each brewery, in addition to other samples along the way (number of samples varies). Additional pints, growlers, and other merchandise may be purchased by guests.

Can I bring booze and beer with me to the tour?

Is there a possibility that the brewery lineup for the tour I booked could change?

It doesn’t happen often, but it happens. Due to circumstances outside of our control, the brewery lineup could change at the last minute. We’ve done our best to schedule out the tours with the breweries, but things can change.

Would you ever cancel a tour?

  • Possibly. If unsafe weather conditions arise, altSTATES Travel reserves the right to cancel a tour to protect your safety and the safety of our crew. Your ticket will be refunded or we can help get you booked on an alternate tour – whichever you prefer.

  • We need a minimum of 4 attendees to run the tour. If this threshold is not met, we will contact you the day prior to your tour to offer a full refund or get you booked on another tour.

All ticket sales are final. However, we’re happy to transfer tour tickets to other people or a different date if needed. Just contact us at howdy@altstatestravel.com or 563-265-3191 at least three days before the tour begins!
