Dan Bush from Triple Crown Whiskey Bar & Raccoon Motel: Delivering live music and strong drinks
People: Dan Bush (co-owner, operator, and 2x kickball champion)
Place: Triple Crown Whiskey Bar & Raccoon Motel (304 E. 3rd Street, Davenport), a bar offering a wide variety of whiskey and live entertainment.
As of writing, the bar is open Tuesday-Thursday 5:00 pm - 12 am, Friday-Saturday 5:00 pm - 2:00 am, Sunday 5:00 pm - 12:00 am, and closed Monday.
Cal conversed with co-owner Dan Bush about his bar, which was named by Thrillist as the top whiskey bar in Iowa and hosts live music most nights. This is the second installment in a three-part blog series featuring the downtown Davenport businesses Dan's got a hand in.
[CH]: I think the biggest question for people who haven’t seen or been here is what's with the name?
[DB]: One of my partners, Sean Moeller, wanted to call it the Raccoon Hotel. I thought Motel was funnier. There is absolutely no meaning - it is absurd for the sake of being absurd.
[CH]: Is there a favorite whiskey that you might carry?
[DB]: I skip around a lot between Irish, bourbon, and Japanese. When I can’t decide I do Jameson.
[CH]: Aside from a whiskey bar, your establishment also hosts a variety of live music and standup comedy shows. Why do these things pair so well together?
[DB]: I think everyone enjoys live performances better when they are a little lubricated.
[CH]: If you were given the opportunity to sing a duet with Neil Diamond, what song would you sing?
[DB]: First of all, I love Neil Diamond. On my 22nd birthday my parents got me tickets to see him at The Mark and I was definitely the youngest person there under my volition and it was one of the best shows I’ve ever seen. Whenever I do karaoke, I do Sweet Caroline. I have karaoked that song in 6 different states and 3 different countries.
The Triple Crown Whiskey Bar & Raccoon Motel is one of the most unique bars in Davenport featuring live music and a wide variety of whiskey. If I had to describe the bar, it would be a mixture of The Bands Last Waltz concert and the show, "Twin Peaks". The Raccoon Motel will be a part of Alternating Currents this year, a huge event in downtown Davenport.
Thanks, Dan! Be sure to check out the Raccoon Motel on Facebook to see which shows are coming up.
