Bix 7 Road Race and Festival 2019: Everything you need to know!

Bix 7 Road Race and Festival 2019: Everything you need to know!

The last week of July is coming up, and that means it’s almost time for the Bix! Here are some ways you can get involved and celebrate Bix weekend, which starts on Thursday, July 25, 2019.

Every July, the city of Davenport, Iowa hosts a 7-mile road race, the Bix 7, that’s followed by a jazz festival a week later. This year, it’s the race’s 45th anniversary - John Hudetz, a resident of Bettendorf, Iowa, founded the road race in 1975. After participating in the Boston Marathon, Hudetz decided he wanted to bring excitement like that back to the Quad Cities. Today, the Bix 7 has developed into the largest non-marathon race in the Midwest, with a fun but challenging 7-mile course that’s lined with spectators, live music, and even a few Slip ‘N Slides!

The Bix offers four different races to participate in:

  1. The Bix 7: Runners will follow a 7-mile course that starts on Brady Street and finishes on 3rd Street. The Bix 7 is on Saturday, July 27, 2019, at 8:00 AM.

  2. The Quick Bix: If you aren’t up to a 7-mile run, but still want to participate in the road races, this race is perfect for you! This race is a 2-mile run or walk up the famous Brady Hill, and you can decide whether you would like to run or walk on the morning of the race. The Quick Bix is on Saturday, July 27, 2019, at 8:00 AM (same starting time/location as the Bix 7).

  3. Jr. Bix 7: This is the perfect way to get runners 12 years and younger to participate in the races.  The distance of the run varies based upon the age of the child. The registration deadline is July 18. Parents with children ages 5 and younger, you are free to walk or run with your child.   The Jr. Bix will be on Friday, July 26, 2019 at 6:00 PM. The distances are as follows:

    • Ages 8-12: 7/10 mile

    • Ages 6-7: 1/2 mile

    • Ages 5 and under: 70 yards

  4. Brady Street Sprints: Are sprints more your type of run?  Then register for the Brady Street Sprints race! Sprints are a quarter-mile ascend up the famous Brady Street Hill.  There are nine different sprints runners can participate in. The finals will be held on Thursday, July 25, 2019 at 7 PM.  For those who are not participating in the sprints, you may view the finals on KWQC. The nine sprints are:

    • Two men’s and women’s open races- 29 and under and 39 and under

    • Two Masters’ Races - 40+ men’s and 40+ women’s

    • High School Relays - Boys and girls
