Do I need to tip?

As of Dec. 1, 2018, we no longer include a mandatory gratuity in new bookings.

We pay our staff fairly, and our philosophy is that gratuity should be a reward for a job well done. To that end, our team members do not solicit tips, but you are encouraged to leave them if you feel like they are deserved. Standard tour and transportation industry gratuity is 10-15% of your booking price.

If you’d like to leave a tip after your tour, you can send it along with your tour date or guide’s name via PayPal or Venmo to howdy@altstatestravel.com. The entire amount will be passed along to your driver/guide.

How do we get around?

Unless otherwise specified, tours involving driving are provided in our comfortable, clean 15-passenger van, meaning there's plenty of room for your group. We provide free wi-fi and bottled water in the van.

You’ll be driven and accompanied by one of our friendly, professional guides. altSTATES complies with all relevant state and federal transportation regulations (our DOT number is 3050927).

Can I drink in your tour van?

Public tours: Unless otherwise specified, alcohol consumption is not allowed in the van during your tour.

Private bookings: Alcohol is generally allowed in the vehicle while we are traveling in Iowa. Due to Illinois open container laws, we cannot permit alcohol consumption in the van while in Illinois. Feel free to contact us or refer to your booking contract if you have questions.

Does each guest need to sign a waiver?

Yes, each guest on our public tours must read and sign his or her own copy of our waiver and release of liability. This can be done in advance of the tour date or in person before the tour begins. Guests under 18 years of age must have a parent or guardian sign the document.

Private tours and transportation services

Do you also provide group transportation without the tour part?

Yep! You can start a quote here

Can you pick up my group somewhere outside the Quad Cities?

We're based in Davenport, Iowa, but we are able to provide services in other areas for an additional fee. Request a quote to get started.

What's your private booking cancellation policy?

We're a small business and each dollar means a lot to us. But, if you need to cancel, we understand. Generally, private bookings may be cancelled without penalty up to 14 days before the date of service; please refer to your tour or transportation contract or contact us for specifics.

Safety is our top priority. To that end, altSTATES withholds the right to cancel a tour for safety reasons at any time, including on the day of the tour if necessary. Midwest weather can be a bummer, but have no fear: tours cancelled by altSTATES will result in a full refund (including any deposit paid). Weather-based cancellations will be initiated as far in advance as possible, but altSTATES reserves the ability to cancel throughout the tour (for example, if unexpected severe weather occurs after the tour begins). Such cancellations are very unlikely, but our top goal is to protect the safety of you, other guests, and your guide.

How do I get a quote and confirm a private booking?

To book a private tour, request a quote, shoot us an email, or send us a message via pigeon (ok, maybe don't do the last one).
