The man with a van and a plan(ish)

  • I really wanted to be a mailman when I was 4 years old

  • I love traveling - I've been to 43 states and more than 30 countries, and I'm an avid couchsurfer

  • Orange is my favorite color

I'm 27 and I started altSTATES in 2017 because I'm passionate about connecting people with the coolest parts of my native Quad Cities region and the surrounding Midwest.

My life started with a bang when I was unintentionally born in the kitchen of my parents' house (sorry, Mom - I just couldn't wait to get out into the world). I was then raised in Davenport, Iowa. After graduating from Indiana University with degrees in Health Administration and Informatics in 2013, I moved to Wisconsin for a job as an IT consultant. Office life quickly wore on me and I quit my job and ended up back in Davenport in late 2017 - I'm a Midwesterner to my core!

By day, I’m an IT project manager, but by night/weekend/every other moment, I love showing off the QC to locals and visitors alike. If you have any questions about your tour or altSTATES, please let me know. I hope to see you on a tour soon! #vanlife

Your New Best Friend
  • My favorite activity is walking on my hands around town

  • I love spending time with my wife and daughter

  • Horses scare me but I think I want to ride one maybe

I am glad to say I am a native Quad Cities resident - it really has been a wonderful place to grow up and start my own family. I graduated from Davenport Central High School and received my bachelor's degree in criminal justice at Ashford University. I graduated college thinking I was going to be a police officer but that all changed when I started building my own family. I have an absolutely beautiful and awesome wife who stays home with our amazing little baby girl Mila. That little girl has brought so much more joy to my life than I ever could have imagined.

I am currently a full-time pharmacy technician but I thought this would be the perfect side job that would be really fun. I love the idea of meeting new people and giving them the best experience possible in the Quad Cities. I’m still trying to figure out what my future will look like but I can’t wait to meet all the people who will help me piece it together!

Still trying to figure out what I want to be when I grow up!

  • My favorite place on earth is the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness and Ely, Minnesota

  • I do not like anything coffee flavored

  • I enjoy finding creative solutions to problems and challenges

I am a descendant of two sets of founding fathers (and mothers) of Davenport, Iowa.  I have lived my entire life in Eastern Iowa and Western Illinois, am a retired Illinois educator, having taught in Galesburg and Rock Island.

I received degrees from the University of Iowa, Western Illinois University, and Capella University. I live on 10 acres outside of Davenport with my husband, 2 dogs, a cat, a horse, and have 2 grown daughters. I love the Quad Cities, and find it a great place to live, with friendly people, a great cost of living, plenty of things to do, or quiet and solitude when desired. We are fortunate to be able to get to anywhere from here, with only a short drive.

I love outdoor activities and especially like walking outside my house on a summer morning to see dew on the grass and the fresh smell of undisturbed nature.

  • I want to live in a cabin in the middle of the woods

  • I enjoy bourbon on the rocks and a tasty BLT

  • Occasionally I wear cowboy boots to be taller

I was born and raised in Davenport, IA and am still enjoying the Quad Cities today. I graduated from Western Illinois University in Moline, IL with a bachelor's degree in English. I've held a variety of jobs; my favorite one was being a tobacconist. I currently work as a freelance writer and at a library, which I love.

In my free time, I enjoy reading, camping, and hanging out with my two cats, Arwen and Ragnar. For writing inquiries, email me at

  • I have the hobbies of a man twice my age, such as model trains

  • As a Dodgers and Hawkeyes fan, I am familiar with disappointment

  • My email address earns me a certain amount of street cred as a QC supporter

I have always lived in Davenport except for 2 years spent in Macomb, IL getting my bachelor's at WIU. Those 2 years made me realize that I don't ever intend to live in a smaller metro area than the QC. My first goal after graduation was to get an apartment in the newly opened Crescent Lofts in downtown Davenport. Achieving that, I lived downtown for a couple years until moving into a 90-year-old house with my wife and having a couple of kids.

I spend my time as a part-time stay-at-home dad, volunteer with the Hilltop Campus Village, and working a part time job, in that order.
